5 FREE Content Writing Tools to Become a Smart Blogger

How well do you write? It’s quite a difficult question to answer. Writing is subjective; so it’s hard to say how well we write at any point of time. However, in professional content writing, we must be able to put our writing to different tests in order to find out how our content performs against the expectation of our audience and clients alike. In this post, I’m going to share with you five such content writing tools that can help you improve your content further.

If you can’t explain it simply, then you don’t know it well enough. — Albert Einstein

Nearly seven long years into the digital marketing industry, I still find articulating thoughts as one of the most challenging aspects of writing for online audiences.

When you are writing for the audience that is mostly invisible to you, you have little idea about the tone and vocabulary you should use to impress them. This is exactly why I prefer to play safe and play with words within my limitations.

If you make any mistakes or choose the wrong words/phrases, you end up looking like stupid to your target audiences. Fortunately, there are some tools to save me from the potential embarrassment. In fact, I highly recommend these online writing tools to all aspiring content writers.

So, let’s take a look at those tools and see how they can help you improve you writing skills.

Readability-Score.com

When you’re writing for your target audience, try to find out if your content is comprehensible enough to them. However, since most writers have to change their writing styles and patterns from one project to another, it usually becomes a little difficult to know how to the strike the perfect balance.

Luckily, the Readability-Score.com helps you deal with that issue.

It ranks your text and helps you find out where you’re currently standing in the readability quotient. All you need to do is paste your text into the box and the app ranks your content based on the reading ease. With a range between 0 and 100, the higher the score, the easier is your content to read.

Technically, the tool considers two metrics to deliver the rank: 1) Flesch-Kincaid Reading Ease and 2) the Grade Level.

In business writing, your ability to explain something in simple words defines your intelligence. If your writing is full of unnecessary jargons, phrases and lengthy sentences with poor punctuations, it only shows your insecurity and average intelligence.

How to Use It: Flesch-Kincaid (named after the researchers who invented it) has a “higher is better” scoring. For business writing, shoot for a score of 80 or above. Grade Level (which is calculated using several methods) defines the probable grade level of education required to understand the passage. For business writing, shoot for Grade 7 or lower.

Online Text Correction

In professional content writing, good grammar is inevitable. However, unless you have a qualified editor and proof reader to check and fix your writing, it’s hard to fix your own errors. There’s no way you can find out the dead phrases and hackneyed usages you may be frequently using in your blog posts.

This is where Online Text Correction tool comes to your rescue.

The app helps you identify both grammatical and stylistic errors in your writing, and it does the job much better than a normal word processor.

How to Use it: Just copy your text and paste it into the textbox and then hit check text. The app will underline the diction and grammar suggestions in green and spelling suggestions in red. If you move your mouse over the underlined words, it will offer suggestions for improvement.

Atomic Reach

Writing content becomes fairly less challenging if you already know the audience and their taste and intelligence level. This is especially true in the SEO content writing world where we come across writing assignments for an audience we are not very familiar with. What if there was an app that could provide you with the required insights into your audience intelligence?

Atomic Reach does just that!

It tests your content based on five different intelligence levels such as General, Knowledgeable, Specialist, Academic, and Genius. With Atomic Insights, as they say it, you will be in a much better position to craft content to ensure it resonates with your audience and achieve desired results from your content marketing campaign.

How to Use It: Atomic Reach is not exactly is a free software; but it does have a free package that you can use to test your content against the desired audience and tailor it for better score. Just sing up with Atomic Reach and use their free tools.

Spam Analyse

The Spam Analyse is a tool designed for writing better emails. More often, many of our emails don’t really reach the recipient because they are caught by the spam filters designed to flag sales words such as “opportunity,” “free,” and “winning.”

In fact, many business people think professional sales people aren’t as smart as the engineers, marketers, and executives because they tend to do a lot of sales-talk. Testing your content against this tool may help you succeed in email marketing as you can lower the chances of your emails being caught by spam filters.

How to Use It: You can simply copy your text and paste it in the box and hit the submit button.

Cliché Finder

Clichés make you sounding boring and unimaginative. Unfortunately, we still see a lot of writers and bloggers still using them unintentionally. This is where the app comes into the picture.

Cliché Finder is app designed to help you reduce potential clichés from your writing. While this is not as polished as the previously mentioned content writing apps, this is useful nevertheless.

How to Use It: Copy the content from your word processor and paste it into the box and then hit “Find Cliches” button. The tool will tell you all the clichés you content contains.

Hope these content writing tools and apps will help you improve your content writing skills and become a better writer. If you know any other tools that this post needs to cover, please feel free to share them in the comment box below.
